President Uhuru Kenyatta |
It has become clear that the once, and recently promising ruling party is facing hard times. The political players that once characterized the president’s party have broken ranks and blatantly defied party supremo Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.
Rifts continue to widen and threaten to shatter the
political outfit which took pride in its elaborate party machinations and
financial capital from its inception on 8th September 2016.
To a larger extent, an analytical approach reveals that the
ailing juggernaut party is suffering from ideological in-congruence.
It is my opinion that whatever is unfolding within the
Jubilee party, like many parties that have had to contend with similar issues,
is as a result of a significant lack of philosophy or an ideology not only on
paper but in the hearts of party members.
It is not lost on us that the lurking whip that might break
the camel’s back, stems from successive whips since 11 political parties folded
away their usefulness in Kasarani stadium three years ago.
From the ICC headache to the election nullification to the
legitimacy concerns to the now traumatic post-handshake stress leading up to
2022 premature campaigns, the Jubilee party has been tested by all measures.
Like political parties the world over, underlying issues
involving egoistic, power thirsty and party wreckers have either been the cause
for a messy break up or a stronger convergence.

All is certainly not well within the Jubilee party even as
party Secretary General Rafael Tuju holds a fine and dandy remark.
The uncertainty brought about by the handshake and political
debts will never be resolved and should be left at that. As the deputy
president echoed, no debt is owed to anyone – except Chinese debts.
On paper, words like national conservatism, democracy, left
or right-wing populism and other politically correct terms - intended to woo
voters - litter Jubilee and other political party documents but have no
sensible meaning or purpose.
We must also commit to memory the fact that, in Kenya,
political parties are but special purpose vehicles intended to claw political
capital or elective office.
It is with this in mind that we can address the lack of
ideological sobriety within any party. When people coalesce around a
personality, we can almost expect with certainty ideological insobriety.
The good book states in no uncertain terms that where there
is no vision; people perish. The key word is vision, you might have also heard
of the term ‘ideals’ similar to ‘ideology.’

DeleteWell said! It is quite true that there is a profound lack of binding ideologies. As soon as the primary purpose (election) is met, there's no assurance of continuity. I like the perspective you introduce. It is important to investigate ideologies with regard to Kenya's political mass as a quick tonic to reprehensible behaviour among the country's political elite. This has the effect of trickling down to the citizens and providing a compass towards which policies they would have in governance. The principled nature of ideologies assures relevance as absolute hence guaranteeing continuity from the fundamental principles it embodies. TrĆØs bien !
ReplyDeleteIt is without doubt a principle that defined and defines many parties
DeleteAin't it just evident that not all that glitters is gold? 3 years ago When the 11 political parties decided to come together, they all hoped that to them favor was a given. They're now realizing the bitter truth and I sense some members getting the idea of involving the PPDT but ain't it a bit late though?
ReplyDeleteIt's a Good read.
It certainly late in the day for the ruling party. It is not strange to hear talk of 'secession' within Jubilee
DeleteWell articulated, the party was formed to assuage the ego of the two supremo, no basis and ideology of its formation hence this was likely to happen.politicians live for today because they don't know what tomorrow holds! Viva
ReplyDeleteWhat a piece!its evident all that rocks the jubilee boat is unkept political promises and the Hand shake which clearly is between the ODM and TNA,theres more to what meets the eye.
ReplyDeleteIndeed we can agree to that
DeleteThank you Ali
ReplyDeleteYeah, simple philosophy is there already, but to lay them down but not actually do anything is useless. Yet Kenyans and Africans in general keep voting in people that just do nothing in office...it's so sad. At this point a four year old can actually rule the country better: when a shoelace comes loose, they know to tie it up.
ReplyDeleteBut our leaders will refuse to enact the same philosophies they stand for š¤
