It is a necessary evil to entertain the thought of yet another emotive, spirited and closely monitored election cycle in Kenya during the presidential race 2022.
Only
this time the players are not only looking to succeed their masters, but also
fit right into their political scheme.
Orange
Democratic Movement’s (ODM) Deputy Leader and Mombasa County Governor Ali
Hassan Joho, who fate and circumstance conspired to thrust into national
politics, has for a time expressed his desire to seize the presidency.
Baringo
Senator, Gideon Moi, who happens to be the son of Kenya’s second president Daniel
Moi, has had endorsements from Meru elders and other leaders from without the
Rift Valley region which is former president Moi’s turf.
Recently,
Joho made a trip to former president Moi’s Kabarak home similar to that of
Raila Odinga and the botched visit that deputy president Ruto made earlier in
the year.
It
is believed that among the issues that were up for discussion was the 2022
presidential race and that Mzee Moi might have then had the chance to present
his son Gideon as his ideal choice for president leading Joho to settle for the
deputy president’s position.
Power-brokering
in politics needs just the right people
offering covert influence, without which a lone politician cannot stand. From
what I gather, all who have ascended to power have had to be propelled from
behind the throne.

Kabarak,
for the moment, appears to be where the right
person lives.
For
a politician of Gideon Moi’s stature, who has proven to have very high approval
ratings (ahead of seasoned politicians like Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka
and Moses Wetangula who have previously contended for presidency), one must
agree that if he began actively campaigning for the seat, then he would be the
man under a lucky the lucky star.
In
an event that the duo (Gideon and Joho) make a pact, then Kenyans already have
a two horse race set and ready. The other horse coming from the Ruto-led team.
Looking
at my crystal ball, Gideon-Joho pact have what it takes, and by that I mean;
they inspire loyalty because they too have been loyal to a fault: Gideon to KANU
and Moi and on the other hand Joho to ODM and Raila.

Another
political advantage is the financial muscle required for campaign, the
necessary community reach out which provides the popular appeal and to add on
to that, each have charisma.

It might be the toughest presidential race kenya ever had before as H.E Ruto plays his cards well. What has currently been witnessed is a close relationship of him and Amason Kingi which divides the coastal block. In addition Ruto also made various visits to the Western kenya seeking support from the Luhya community. Therefore the duo Gideon Moi and Joho needs to go an extra mile to win the forthcoming presidential race.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much Ali, you've got very interesting insights too, the Kingi factor comes into play when talking about Coast unity.
DeleteLove the article. Great incites on the political class. I personally think that Gideon and Joho make a good pact.
ReplyDeleteThank you Charles, let's see how that goes
DeleteI had no clue this has been going on, let's see so long as Ruto isn't in the picture
ReplyDeleteI am glad I can inform you. Ballack
DeleteGood article I fully conquer with you
ReplyDeleteThank you very much for your feedback
DeleteI conquer with the sttmt based on whether tinga will back them to gather the western vote and of course mt Kenya supports Gideon
ReplyDeleteYes, Raila's influence is undoubtedly strong.
DeleteGreat analysis... But joho could just be one other tycoon
ReplyDeleteThank you Anne.
DeleteGreat analysis
ReplyDeleteThank you very much.
DeleteMr Anyona I like the article, you did summarized it all,all roads seem to lead to kabarak,Reason best know by the political class,Gideon still has a lot to work on for him to be counted on as a leader,as per now not even his backyard has his back as far as leadership is concerned, joho on the other hand has more questions than answers on his academic background, I think the duo need a more powerful figure for them to strike a power deal, for instance Hon Raila as president,Gideon as Deputy,Uhuru as Prime minister,Joho as deputy premier and Mudavadi as deputy premier. Mean while Kalonzo as well to be part of the deal, tell me there's still need for election,it will be won fair and square.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the feedback Geoffrey.
DeleteClearly, both the Ruto camp and the Gideon camp have their work cut out. Sure, if Raila ran for presidency, again, and brought the other 'principlals' they would shake up things politically. However the challenge is in uniting the NASA house because as it is it's broken even
Gideon offers a far better choice than Ruto.
ReplyDeleteInteresting view, that may just materialize in the forth coming 2022 elections
