While you may wish to
go naked and be laughed at or laughed with, Erick Omondi will beat you at it.
Nudity is the game he knows all too well.
Erick Omondi is the
single funniest comedian who will stop at nothing to crack you up with funny
pun-tees about his naked figure – from Bonfire’s Balling – and boy he got them
balls (pun intended), to a wiggling swim in Kenya’s desert rivers of Turkana.
Eriko – as his fans
fondly refer to him – has turned around his style of humor from ethnic bashing
undertones to refreshing simple jokes that mimic the day to day struggles of a
Kenyan, a reminder that life is never that serious.
The most recent of his
escapades has got everyone dumbfounded and others, well, laughing themselves
silly was a viral video in which Eriko is seen ‘reminiscing’ his childhood days
by swimming in a river, showing skin, along with other younger lads in Kenya’s
northern Lodwar region.
The jury is still out
on whether Kenyans have acquired an insatiable taste for his choice of Comedy.
However, the head of
Kenya Films and Classification Board (KFCB), the indomitable chief, Ezekiel
Mutua is a bird whose feathers have been raffled by this latest occurrence
despite Eriko’s apology and has vowed to have action taken for what he (Mr.
Mutua) termed as indecent acts with minors.
KFCB boss further
reiterates that Eriko flouted several legislations including the infamous Cap
222 but I guess these are the pains of being a Kenyan artiste.

It was not until last year that Erick Omondi’s fans were treated to a funny video parody of the film ‘Gods Must be Crazy’ which he called ‘Gods are not crazy, we are’. Again he starred in it wearing only a panty – for the love of humor.
When he first started
stand-up, Eriko was on the hunt for rib-cracking punch lines just like any
rookie in the field. Kenyans fell in love with his set the more he performed –
so effortlessly he got more and more Kenyans hooked.

His good fortune has earned him startling commendations and has opened doors to international and regional performances that have dazzled millions of people.
The parodies of madam
boss’s (Akothe) rants on YouTube and Diamond Platinumz’s Nasema Nawe turned Nabeba
Mawe are among Eriko’s online breakthrough moments of humor.

Mr Omondi is a true son of the soil. He reminds us of Africa before swimming pool and swimming costumes. Man, from that clip u can tell the joy it is to dive in a natural source of water. Yeah our Africa before Mzungu. Look at us now, being charged to get into a small confined human constructed pool . He's naked again- freedom from mzungus clothes. We are colonized in our heads, they walk naked and here we are twavaa hadi buibui. Imagine if he wrapped those 2KDF of his Kenyans would be okay. Hapo mbele ndo tatizo. Kenyans NO
ReplyDelete😂😂😂 I like this guy Ericko
ReplyDeleteErick is after maintaining relevancy in the society, but to extent?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me a joke gone wrong. He actually said that it was part of the skits he was compiling for a show he was to play in Turkana during an event in the future. However, as he says, someone leaked it prematurely and unedited. While I feel sorry at him for somebody having been so merciless to him, I feel that there's a significant amount of responsibility that comes with being in the limelight.
ReplyDeleteSo, I respectfully disagree with the neo-colonial perspective you intoduce Faith. I'm up for African liberation and emancipation. In fact, I don't think you'll ever find anyone as pan-African as I am. These are simply some of the privileges we must give up when we accept roles of high esteem. Everyone looks up to us not just those of our race. Now there are others even now who can get away with anything from worse allegations such hate comments right up to sex scandals and remain unfazed (Trump). Apparently sanity, reason and convention prevent us from rolling down there. For us and especially those in the public eye, there's a profound burden of social responsibility.
Good work monsieur !
